Drawstring Linen Pants
Look your best in a stylish pair of drawstring linen
pants.
A really comfortable pair of pants to wear during the warm
(and sometimes hot and humid) summer months is drawstring linen
pants.
Not only are the cuts usually loose and relaxed, but
with a drawstring waist you can tighten it as tight as you want
or leave it on the loose side for a more comfortable fit.
For these reasons plus the fact that linen wears extremely
well (the linen curtains were found still intact when the tomb
of Tutankhamen was opened after thousands of years!).
You can't quite say that about cotton, now can you? But what
makes linen so great? And drawstring linen pants such a
great (and fashionable) investment? Well, let me tell you!
The word linen is derived from the Latin word for the flax
plant, which is “linum”, and the earlier Greek word
“linon”. The linen industry has been around for over
four thousand years. Yes, four thousand!
So you know there's got to be a reason for it's longevity,
and that reason is it's extremely high quality.
Did you know that linen has been around for so long that the
word “line” was derived from the use of a linen thread because
that's what was used to determine a straight line? You learn
something new every day, huh?
Whereas drawstring linen pants are incredibly comfortable,
linen is also used for several other items.
Of course it is used for household items such as sheets,
table clothes, napkins, towels, and draperies, but did you know
that linen fabric is also the preferred choices by traditional
artists for oil painting?
Of course many artists of today use cotton canvasses due to
cotton being less expensive, but artists of long ago preferred
linen to cotton for its strength and durability. Remember what
I said about King Tutankhamen?
Artists want their paintings to be around for a long time.
In the past, linen was also used for books. And believe it or
not it was also used for shields in the Middle Ages (again, due
to its strength).
But speaking of strength, which of course you want your
drawstring linen pants to be, think about what you want to be
even stronger... money! That's right, United States currency
(and many other countries) is printed on paper that is 24%
linen.
This helps guarantees that our money will be strong and
crisp for a long time. Thousands of years? Maybe not, but then
do you really want to wear a pair of drawstring linen pants for
that long?
